James Hartley qualified as a solicitor with Norton Peskett Solicitors and now has over 30 years experience of contentious litigation. Over the years James has tended to specialise in Criminal Litigation with particular emphasis on motoring and regulatory law. James has been a duty solicitor since the inception of the scheme in the mid-1980s. James’ particular strengths are advocacy in the Lower Courts and an ability to quickly grasp the nature of the case and the individual he is dealing with. James also has a Higher Courts (criminal proceedings) qualification and has made appearances in the Crown Court. In recent years he has represented a considerable number of privately funded individuals facing motoring offences, often under the threat of disqualification. He has enjoyed a high level of success in enabling clients to retain their driving licences in such circumstances. James also prosecutes in the East Anglia region as a solicitor agent for the Marine Management Organisation which took over the work of the Marine Fisheries Agency. James also has experience of contentious planning cases and has recently successfully defended a prosecution by the Local Authority and won an appeal against an Enforcement Notice. Recent comments from clients include the following:-
“We are well aware that without your knowledge and experience there could have been a much less agreeable outcome to our day in Court."
“I was so nervous that I didn’t realise until afterwards just how hard you had been working for me behind the scenes. I cannot express enough my admiration for your work that day and your experience certainly showed itself."
“This is just to express a heart-felt thank you for your care and guidance during J’s encounter with the legal system."
James has lived locally throughout his life and is a member of the Beccles Town Charitable Trust. His hobbies include East Anglian art, reading, cycling, all types of boating, gardening, playing squash and tennis and occasionally resting.
"We were helped to understand everything and everyone was realistic, with no false hope."
