Despite the effects of an Essex Boarding School and University at Leicester, David is a Norfolk man born and bred, with strong ties to the Broads area.
He qualified in October 1980, after completing his training in Norwich, where he discovered his love for Family Law. His first job post qualification was a short stint with Howes Percival in Northampton as a Civil Litigator, but the call of Norfolk and of Family Law was too strong.
He joined Hood Vores & Allwood in (East) Dereham for the first time in 1983 as an Assistant in the Litigation Department but left after 18 months to work in Great Yarmouth.
In 1991, he returned to work in Dereham and practiced almost entirely in Family Law between 1994 and 2013, although more recently he has also carried had a varied workload of civil and commercial litigation.
His time away from the office has mainly been spent playing or watching sport. He is a keen Norwich City fan, having first been to Carrow Road aged six, sitting on his father's knee. He has been a single-figure golfer, and a fine club cricketer having captained Norwich Wanderers CC (now Ashmanaugh & Barton Wanderers CC) for 5 years.
His main sporting prowess however was seen as an umpire on the hockey pitch where he officiated in 83 matches in the England Hockey League as one of the top 50 umpires in England before retiring in 2010. He still wields the whistle occasionally for a local club.
More recently, David has been spending his time as a family man after the birth of his daughter Maddie in May 2008, a sister for Emily, and 24 years after the birth of his son Phillip.
David was President of the Norfolk and Norwich Law Society for 2009.
